Installing Cisco UCS Platform Emulator is very easy to perform if you are using VMWare and a little more difficult if you are using Hyper-V or Virtual box. In this article I am going to show you how to install Cisco UCS Platform Emulator on ESXi 6.0. The entire process take about 15 minutes depending on the speed of your connection to your VMWare server.
In my previous article I talked about the Cisco UCS Platform Emulator and provided you with a link to where you can download the Cisco UCS Platform Emulator. If you didn’t read that article please go back and take a look at it. Otherwise you can go here to download the Cisco UCS Platform Emulator but it is required that you have a Cisco login for it.
- You have download the OVA file from the link provided above
- An ESXi server is available that can be used to install Cisco UCS Platform Emulator
- You have some knowledge of ESXi
Now if those assumption are correct then we can continue with Installing Cisco UCS Platform Emulator.
Installing Cisco UCS Platform Emulator
First open vSphere Client and connect to your ESXi server and click File >> Deploy OVF Template…
Then choose the OVA file of the Cisco UCS Platform Emulator that you downloaded earlier and click next.
Now confirm the data on the screen and click next.
Then give your new VM and name and click next.
Then choose your provisioning type and click next. I prefer thin provisioning to save storage space
Then choose your network adapter and click next. If you want to be able to access the Cisco UCS Platform Emulator make sure the network is an external network.
Then confirm all of your settings and check “Power on after deployment”. When you are done click “Finish” and your VM will be begin to build based off the template.
Once the VM boots open a console Window and log into it to get the IP addresses. The default username is ucspe and the default password is ucspe.
Once you have logged in press a to “Show Status”
Then in the status window we can see the VIP address. This is the address we want to connect to.
If you do not see a VIP address confirm that your VM is properly connected to the network and that you have DHCP in your environment.
Once you have the VIP Address open any browser and go to the VIP address to access the Cisco UCS Platform Emulator.
Congratulations you have successfully Installed Cisco UCS Platform Emulator on your network.
In the upcoming articles I will talk about configuring the Cisco UCS Platform Emulator for testing and training.
